BDP 423K is an original RS Mexico that was first registered 1st December 1971. The car presents very well with faultless paintwork, interior and a very tidy detailed engine bay. The car was subject to a ground up restoration in 2003 when purchased as a bare shell by an RS owners club member. His plan was to completely restore the shell and install a Ford 2.1ltr Pinto engine and five speed type nine gearbox.
During the restoration the shell was completely renewed with some new sections added to the floor as well as having both front wings replaced. The car was subject to a full respray (including the underside) from the original Monza Blue to the current Gleaming white. A brand new set of original Mexico graphics were applied and a set of period Mk 2 Escort RS 2000 seats were installed.
After completion in 2004 the car was showed at various RS owners club events until 2006 when a new project forced its sale. The next owner treated it to a full leather re-trim and brand new carpets throughout which really brighten the interior. During this period it was also decided that for originality the car should be returned to Mexico spec. An original Mexico engine was sourced and was then rebuilt, but the five speed gearbox was been retained, and makes the car much more drivable and refined at motorway cruising speeds. The car was subject to extensive engine work during his ownership with Autotechnics Chichester. He also retrimmed the interior in leather and added new carpets. It was always maintained regardless of the cost.
The current owner (also an RS owners club member) purchased the car this year and enjoyed attending The Ford Fair at Beaulieu. He states that people are constantly complimenting him on the car, asking questions and telling their nostalgic stories about Fast Fords they had owned years previously. He also states that when driving this little car people always smile and give it the thumbs up and whenever he fills it with petrol or parks it up people point there camera phones at it! It is only offered for sale again as he now wishes to purchase a three door Sierra Cosworth.
This truly is fantastic opportunity to purchase an appreciating classic. A Mk1 RS Escort appears in the latest Fast & Furious movie in a leading role and is sure to be a very popular site on our roads.
