1967 Ford Mustang 289GTA V8 automatic convertible
Registration: 348 GTA
Finished in its original Acapulco Blue Metallic with all the GTA embellishments and special parts. This is the convertible version of the car made famous by Steve McQueen in Bullitt.
Originally built in the Dearborn plant in Michigan. It was first imported into the UK in 2003, it has been with the current owner since March 2011. The GTA number plate was added by the current owner.
It is fitted with the luxury interior consisting of Parchment Crinkle Vinyl with chrome highlighters. Brushed Aluminium dash and door cards with matt black cast aluminium door grills. The full centre consul with aluminium finish and ‘roller blind’ cubby hole, luxury colour coded gear change, chrome pedal trim, remote control mirror and wood effect steering wheel.
Externally the GTA has flip type petrol cap, repeater indicators in the hood [bonnet] badges and pinstripe side embellishers, chrome rockers [sill trims] 15” 5 stud chrome wheels with whitewall tyres, chrome wheel arch trims and front grill bar with fog lights.
It has a Power hood, power steering, power front disk brakes, up rated suspension 1&3/16ths GT bar and an extra 20HP, giving a nominal 220HP.
A rebuilt engine was fitted in 2010, and this had been in celebrity chef James Martin's fastback of the same year. The engine is fitted with Edelbrock inlet manifold, Holly carburettor, electronic ignition, high power coil, Edelbrock alloy rocker covers and air filter and aluminium flexi fan.
The current owner has had a great deal of work done to bring this car up to its present standard, including, Upper and lower ball joints, inner tie rods, upper control arm bushes, idler arm bushes, gear linkage bushes, wheel cylinder, replacement brake hoses, steering box repair, gearbox and diff check, new exhaust mounts, new washer hosing, wiper blades and full service. This work was carried out by the much respected Youles Racing. Paint has been refreshed and the car now presents extremely well.
The car starts ‘on the button’, runs smoothly and pulls strongly and sounds awesome. The three speed auto transmission all works just as it should and the brakes are powerful and progressive. Steering is light and precise for an American muscle car icon. I am sure that this car performs better now that it ever did.
